Thank you! So far, so good, but wow, they've got a lot of energy and can really move around for being just a few days old. I've already had to confine them to a crate, as they were escaping from the Rubbermaid bin they'd been in. I'll soon learn how my sister felt when her kids started to walk and run around the house :)

We bought one of those great big clear plastic things and cut a square hole in the middle of the top (to keep condensation down). One of the 25 or 20 gallon rubbermaid containers (we had one kitten named "Tupper" because she was carried around in a Tupperware (i.e. Rubbermaid) container. We could put a heating pad in there, plus room for a litter pan, once they got old enough to need it. With the top on, they couldn't jump out until they were old enough to be too big for it. But it was important to have that hole in the middle of the top because even with the top loose the sides got wet. I'll see if I can take a photo and post it. I think it is being used for non-kitten uses at the moment.

You've described exactly what I use as a litterbox for our adult cats. I use a 24 gallon clear Rubbermaid storage container with a lid, and cut a hole in the lid for entry/exit. I've got one adult male cat who pees "standing up", and in a conventional litterbox he just shoots straight out the sides. In this covered contraption, the urine hits the sides and just runs back down into the box. I've got two litterboxes on the go now, but had considered adding a new one, so now I know it's a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!

Everytime I see someone looking at cat boxes (for some ungodly price) at a store, I sort of whisper "Buy Rubbermaid instead."
