National Homeless Animals Day, August 19, Saturday
NATIONAL HOMELESS ANIMALS’ DAY OBSERVANCES
SATURDAY, AUGUST 19TH, 2006
Okay, let's kick it in for the cat bloggers. There is a call for candlelight vigils on August 19th. Shall we not remind ourselves, in the blogger's community, of how many animals need homes, and then celebrate on August 19th, all those who have been saved, but remember those who yet need help?
Let me know if you will be able to take a photo of a candle, or a cat and candle, (or any pet and a candle) to post on their blog or website on August 19th along with a link to National Homeless Animal's Day and a local animal shelter or rescue agency of their choice. I will link them all here, and also send in the list to the Carnival of the Cats on Sunday. Please forward far and wide, to anyone you know who has a blog.
If you can't get a candle shot, consider a photograph of a past rescued pet, in honor of all rescued pets.
We shall have a Vigil of our own in the virtual community, in solidarity with neighborhood communities across the world.
Let's remember all the good that has been done, and all those we have yet to help. Include your blog address in the comments below so I can check and link it Saturday, or email it to info @ americancat.net
Don't have a blog, and there is no vigil near you, how about sitting on the front porch with a candle lit, enjoying a moment to reflect.
Much love,
Susan

I mentioned this to Flippy, especially the part about posting a photo of a previously homeless pet on my blog on Saturday. She said to me, "Those are the only kind of pets we have!" Given that, I can certainly post a photo and blurb on Saturday. We don't have any candles in the house, I don't think (we don't burn the scented ones because of the birds), but I can definitely give you a previously-homeless dog or cat. Perhaps I'll make a trip to try to trap that stray casino cat again this Saturday in honour of the occasion.
I can probably do this too. I don't know if I can do both cat and candle, but it would be a pretty picture.
Yes, we don't want to ignite any cats. :)
I certainly will attempt to get a cat near a candle but I make no promises. However, I will post my cats and my dog, all of which came from rescue.
I cut and pasted your post onto my blog. Hopefully more bloggers will participate. Thanks for the heads up Susan.
Hmm, I think it's time to put out my "memory candle". It's a five foot pillar candle that has a glass "topper" to keep the wind from blowing it out, it makes all the neighbors come over and ask what it's for. Can't wait to tell them, we have a lot of "rescued" pets in our neighborhood. I'm sure they'll all join me Saturday along with their pets.
Thank you for letting us know,
Donna
Hmmm . . . are Darla and Elvis (formerly Lulu and Dylan) considered "rescued"? I think THEY rescued ME!
I didn't know there was a national homeless animal day, but now I do, and you can bet I will be doing something about it.
Blessings,
Terry
I have a cat blog, and I will participate. I will post a photo and a link on both my cat blog and my personal blog.
