Abandoned kitten...

It's 2:30 am, I'm back from the airport, and guess what was waiting at the side of the road for me in front of the barn when I pulled in?

In the scheme of Abandonment, whoever left this kitten scored a few "good" points, although how that weighs against a year in jail or a $1000 fine in court, I'm not sure. They A) at least left a crate. I can always use a crate. If they had dumped the kitten without a crate, chances are pretty good the kitten would be squished in the road by now, or would have hidden for days until we noticed him/her B) they left food and water with the kitten, although there was no water in the bowl, and most of the food was gone. C) the kitten is pretty chubby, and is wearing a flea collar.

However, on the bad side they A) left the crate within 2 feet of the road, B) didn't bother to include a towel for the poor little thing so he/she was sitting out in a cold damp bare crate on this chilly evening and, C) they left no note or email.

I haven't decided whether or not to call the state police to report it. I probably will, unless I get an email tomorrow from someone letting me know what they did and why they did it.

This now rounds the kitten population up to 11. Thanks bunches, whoever you are. I hope you genuinely had a good reason for dumping this kitten in the middle of the night. I hope tomorrow I find a note that I missed tonight in the darkness.

I'm glad I came home late and pulled in to find him, so he/she didn't sit out there in the cold all evening. Luckily I had the cage available from the black kittens (who are with Mark's sister, fostering) so I could get the kitten set up all snug and dry while in my semi-comatose "this morning I was in Spokane WA and I just spent the whole day on a plane and the last two hours driving" state.

Off to Spokane.

Here I am working away in the Hancock Airport in Syracuse. I'm going here. Wireless is free at the United gate (must remember to fly United again)...so hey, I'm cranking out some work.

Thank you Donna, Nancy, Valarie and Craig, and of course Mark, for caring for the cats and kits!

Sorry you were looking at that beer post for a week....

Back to work! Adios! Hug the kitties!

Update: FLIGHT DELAYED! Argh! Maintenance problem.

Hate that.

MAYBE I'm going to Spokane...

Brew Fest Ithaca 2007

Catching up on past blog entries...I was the designated driver. Who knew beer drinkers were so into tshirts? And as a many-years wine festival attendee, I had to remind myself of the "elbow your way to the bar" attitude of beer drinkers at the BrewFest. It was a bit of a blast from the past. Talk about a young crowd...

Need foster home for two teenagers!

Two adopted kittens are coming back into rescue here, and I'm headed out of town until Tuesday (leaving Friday) I need a foster home (not you, Valarie or Nancy because I'm foisting little guys off on you!) that has a separate room to keep two 14-16 week old black kits until next Tuesday. Please email me at info@americancat dot net as soon as possible! Thanks!

Remaking the Day

Okay. I like this idea. At the end of today, tell me how you manage to remake today, September 11, in remembrance of 9/11. I must keep this in mind today.

Sacked out, adopter photo!

Stephanie sent a photo of the "kitten formerly known as Whiffen" and the kitten formerly known as Ginny. Hasn't she grown up to be a pretty lady?

I hope the fact that Stephanie's first cat is on the other side of the bed isn't a sign that these two are cute little pests!

Just keep watching....

Maybe it's only funny to me because it's after midnight and I'm crusing the net for something to make me smile, but you must watch the whole thing.

No more "rocks" for Schubert

Well, tonight Mark went to bed and threw
"rocks"
for the cats. One handful for the downstairs cats, and one handful for the upstairs cats.

Oh. Upstairs Cat. Just one cat. Just little Norma. No Schubert.

I took Schubert to the vet today to be euthanized due to complications from diabetes.

How can a cat we couldn't even pet make such a difference in the household? He'll get a post tomorrow, but it seemed unfair to let the day go by without mentioning him.

No rocks for Schubert, tonight.

Gallery Night Ithaca Sept 7 to benefit TC SPCA

I just happened to stumble across this in the Ithaca Times tonight. At the Clinton House Artspace, "Artist and their Pets" with the TC SPCA and their cats on hand.

Download the flyer at the above link to learn more.

I may just have to swing by before I meet Mark for our usual Friday "oh my God get Susan out of the house" meetup in downtown Ithaca.

Caturday -- Brendan has passed on

(photo from Caturday)

I was very sad to hear that handsome and stoic Brendan has pass on. I have so enjoyed the beautiful photographs of the interaction of the three adopted cats in the Caturday clan. It won't be the same without him. Many thanks to Caturday for sharing their lives with all of us.

How do you make a peace sign without Brendan?

OK, so perhaps I did almost cause an accident...

...when I hit the brakes to stop for this at a garage sale last night. But it was the end of the day, so yes the price was right, and it looks like it was nearly new. Certainly gently used.

The woman who sold it to me was psyched (and so was I). And she pointed out with great pride that not only was I getting a gorgeous new playpen for a great price, it was SESAME STREET! I didn't have the heart to tell her it was for kittens.

But the kittens like it! I'm not sure if Big Bird has an impact on them, but it sure beats the heck out of a cage to play in (they'll go back in the cage at night).

Please spread the word! We will shortly need foster homes!

Will be dealing with family stuff the next two weeks, so blogging will be light.

Six sniffy kittens and their mom...

We are at full capacity now. I should be able to get mom spayed this week and get her out of here in short order, back to her home barn.

Lots of folks out at the TC SPCA

The TC SPCA was Nathan Winograd's first stop in his tour to promote his book, "Redemption." There was a full house at the TC SPCA community room.

The cats were oblivious to all the fuss and were catching their after hours naps.

It was good to see everyone. There were extra books so I was able to pick one up. I look forward to reading it.

Ithaca Brew Fest

Just learned about the Ithaca Brew Fest. Proceeds to benefit the revitalization of Ithaca's historic Stewart Park on Cayuga Lake!

Is anyone going to the TC SPCA to see N. Winograd today/Sunday?

5:30. Here's the info. I don't have the book but would like to hear the presentation. I'll go alone, but would love to have some company or someone to watch for when I arrive. So far, everyone is out of town or has family visting. Let me know at info at americancat dot net.
